LEUCOLIEVA 50 mg contains Leucovorin Calcium (Folinic Acid), a reduced form of folic acid. It is not a chemotherapeutic agent itself, but is used to rescue normal cells from methotrexate toxicity and to enhance the effect of 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) in certain cancers.
Leucovorin Calcium is used for:
1. Methotrexate Rescue Therapy
– Reduces toxicity of high-dose methotrexate
2. Combination with 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU)
– Enhances cytotoxic effect in colorectal cancer
3. Folate Deficiency–related Megaloblastic Anemia
– When oral therapy is not feasible
4. Accidental Methotrexate Overdose
Common side effects:
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Allergic reactions (rare)
Serious side effects:
• Hypersensitivity reactions (very rare)
• Seizures (rare, high doses)
Generally well tolerated.
Dosage depends on indication and methotrexate level.
Common uses:
• Methotrexate rescue:
– Dose varies; commonly 10–25 mg every 6 hours, adjusted by MTX levels
• With 5-FU:
