Topotecan is a camptothecin analog chemotherapy drug.
It works by inhibiting topoisomerase I, an enzyme required for DNA replication. This causes DNA strand breaks and leads to cancer cell death, particularly in rapidly dividing tumor cells.
Topotecan injection is administered intravenously (IV) under oncology supervision.

Topotecan Injection 2.5 mg is used in the treatment of:

• Ovarian cancer

  • Metastatic or recurrent disease after platinum-based chemotherapy

• Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC)

  • Relapsed or refractory disease

• Cervical cancer

  • Persistent, recurrent, or metastatic disease (often in combination therapy)

Common Side Effects

• Nausea and vomiting

• Diarrhea

• Fatigue

• Hair loss

• Injection-site reactions

Hematological Side Effects

• Neutropenia (dose-limiting toxicity)

• Thrombocytopenia

• Anemia

Serious Side Effects

• Severe myelosuppression → infections or bleeding

• Febrile neutropenia

• Gastrointestinal toxicity (severe diarrhea, mucositis)

• Elevated liver enzymes (less common)

Dosage must be determined by an oncologist and adjusted based on blood counts and kidney function.

Typical Adult Dosage

• 1.5 mg/m² IV once daily

• Given for 5 consecutive days

• Repeated every 21 days
