Leucolieva Leucovirin Calcium Injection IP 50mg Description:
Leucolieva Leucovorin Calcium Injection IP 50 mg is a sterile, preservative-free solution used as an adjunct in cancer chemotherapy. It is primarily administered to diminish the toxic effects of folic acid antagonists such as methotrexate. Leucovorin also enhances the efficacy of fluorouracil in colorectal cancer treatment protocols.
Carfilzomib is administered intravenously and is usually used in combination with other anti-cancer medicines.
Uses:
- Rescue Therapy After High-Dose Methotrexate Treatment: Leucovorin is used to reduce the harmful effects of high-dose methotrexate, a chemotherapy drug that can damage healthy cells.
- Counteracting Folic Acid Antagonists: It helps reverse the toxic effects of drugs like methotrexate, trimethoprim, and pyrimethamine that inhibit folic acid metabolism.
- Colorectal Cancer Treatment (with 5-Fluorouracil): Leucovorin enhances the effectiveness of 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) in the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer.
- Megaloblastic Anemia (Due to Folic Acid Deficiency): Occasionally used to treat certain types of anemia caused by folate deficiency, especially when oral therapy is not feasible.
- Methanol Toxicity (Adjunctive): Leucovorin may be used alongside other treatments to manage methanol poisoning by helping bypass blocked folate pathways.
